Professor Roald Bahr

Roald Bahr MD PhD is a Professor of Sports Medicine and chair of the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Center and the Department of Sports Medicine at the University of Sport and Physical Education. He is also a consultant physician at the Department of Sports Medicine at the National Sports Center. He is authorised as Sports Medicine Physician (Idrettslege NIMF) by the Norwegian Society of Sports Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. He serves as team physician for the national teams in beach volleyball and golf. He is vice-chairman of the National Council on Nutrition and Physical Activity, past president of the Norwegian Society of Sports Medicine, a current member of the Sports Medicine Council of the Norwegian Olympic Committee and Confederation of Sports and secretary of the Medical Commission of the International Volleyball Federation. His main research area is sports injury prevention. He is a former national team volleyball player.

Professor Caroline Finch

Caroline Finch is an internationally renowned sports injury epidemiologist and Director of the NSW Injury Risk Management Research Centre. Prof Finch was the inaugural chair of the three national committees responsible for sports safety and public health policy relating to sport: the National SportSafe Committee established by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care and the Australian Sports Commission to advise on national sports safety policy; the Australian Sports injury Data Working Party which developed guidelines for sports injury data collections; and the Public Health Committee of Sports Medicine Australia which is moving sports medicine activities toward more of a public health focus. She is also an advisor to many government departments and other health agencies.

Associate Professor Julie Steele

Julie Steele is an Associate Professor in Biomechanics, Department of Biomedical Science at the University of Wollongong and is one of Australia's most eminent biomechanics researchers in the field of Science and Medicine in Sport. Her key areas of research have been in the mechanisms and prevention of lower limb injuries, particularly to the knee; developing recommendations for safe playing surfaces and footwear for various sports; obesity and functional performance in children; and breast movement and sport brassiere design. More recently, as Head of the Biomechanics Research Laboratory at the University of Wollongong, Julie has been a driving force behind breakthrough research, in conjunction with the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute, related to development of intelligent fabrics designed to reduce and prevent injuries in sport. In 1998 Julie was awarded the inaugural F.E.Johnson Memorial Fellowship for outstanding research in the field of Science and Medicine in Sport. Julie has had scores of articles published in peer reviewed journals all over the world and has presented more than 100 talks at national and internationals conferences.

Dr Robbie Parker

Dr Robbie Parker is Head of the Children’s Hospital Institute of Sports Medicine (CHISM), at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. He is the former senior lecturer and Acting Head of the Human Movement Department at the Australian Catholic University, Sydney. Robbie was a former Board Member of Fitness NSW, Chairperson of the Australian Fitness Accreditation Council (AFAC) and Manager of the Training Strategic Business Unit of Fitness Australia. He played over 100 first grade games for the Manly Rugby Union club as well as being a Waratah and Australian Rugby Union representative. He also played over 8 seasons in First Grade Rugby League for the Western Suburbs and Manly clubs. Robbie is an international presenter in sport and exercise science. His specific research interests are in exercise and injury prevention and the role of physical activity in energy metabolism and weight management. He was co-author of the report into the “Incidence of Injury in Junior Rugby League in the Penrith and District Junior Rugby League Area”, a project funded by the NSW Sporting Injuries Committee and the Australian Rugby League.
