The Order of the ASMF Fellows have contibuted to many projects and events since its creation in 1984.

The broad objectives of the Fellows are :
- promote excellence in the field of sports medicine
- encourage young members' research and scientific endeavours
- recognise the contibution of members to SMA.

Some of the notable contibutions in recent years includes :

- supporting the SMA 40th Anniversary Dinner
- supporting the Refshauge Lecturer at the Australian Conference of Science and Medicine in Sport (ACSMS)
- mentoring young poster presenters at the ACSMS
- supporting the ACSMS Awards
- contributed financially to the Physical Activity supplement of the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport

ASMF Fellows News - New Fellows


This year three new Fellowships were awarded. Following is a brief (and very incomplete) snapshot of the new Fellows for 2007. The new fellows were presented with their Fellowships at the "be active '07" conference in Adelaide.

Ms Maria Constantinou

Maria is currently a Lecturer in Physiotherapy at the Griffith University on the Gold Coast.  She has a Graduate Certificate in Education, a Bachelor of Physiotherapy as well as a Masters in Physiotherapy study (Sports); furthermore Maria is at present studying towards a Masters in Philosophy.  Maria has had clinical and practical experience at many events including the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.  She currently holds the Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) Queensland Professional Education Committee Chair and the Queensland Sports Physiotherapy Australian Chapter Chair.

 

Ms Marilyn Feenstra

Marilyn currently owns and practices at The Mosman Foot Clinic.  She was National President of Sports Medicine Australia 2003-2005 and has served on the National Board since 1999.  Furthermore Marilyn was the SMA (NSW) President from 1999-2005 and has been a member of the SMA (NSW) Board since 1995.  She has served 10 years on the NSW Podiatry Board and served three years on the National Podiatry Board.  Marilyn was responsible for establishing the first school of Podiatry in NSW and in 1995 was awarded the Woodhead Award for her services to the Podiatry Profession.

 

Mr Paul Fleet

Paul at present is the Senior Consultant Podiatrist and Director at The Foot Clinic in the ACT.  He holds a Diploma in Podiatry and is the current President of the Australasian Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM).  Paul has had international clinical experience at the Sydney and Athens Olympics as well as the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.  He has also been a Team Podiatrist for the Canberra Raiders, Brumbies (current) and at the 2003 World Cup (Canberra Section).  Paul is a past President and Treasurer for Sports Medicine Australia’s ACT Branch and has given numerous presentations relating to sports medicine during his career including two workshops at the 2006 ACSMS conference in Fiji.
