Smartplay is a comprehensive sports injury prevention project that was initiated in South Australia in 1997 following research into the incidence of sporting injuries at the community level. Prior to the commencement of the project market research was conducted to establish attitudes, behaviours and barriers towards the prevention of sporting injuries. Findings from both of these studies were used to develop strategies for an ongoing health promotion project.
